Three Men on the Bummel (1900)

The sequel to Three Men in a Boat novel brings back the three companions, this time on a bicycle tour through the German Black Forest. Account of middle-aged Englishmen abroad is spiced with typical Jeromian humour.

The novel was written near the end of the Victorian-era bicycle craze, launched by the development of the modern two-wheeled safety bicycle. The references to brand competition, advertising, and enthusiasts' attitudes toward their equipment resonate with modern readers.
