The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (1921)

The short story begins with the birth of the protagonist, Benjamin Button, in 1860. Benjamin is born with the physical appearance of a seventy-year-old man. The story follows his career as he becomes progressively younger.

This story was inspired by a remark of Mark Twain's to the effect that it was a pity that the best part of life came at the beginning and the worst part at the end.
