FAQ: phasing out conventional incandescent bulbs (2009)


On 18 March 2008, the European Commission adopted a regulation on non-directional household lamps which would replace inefficient incandescent bulbs by more efficient alternatives between 2009 and 2012. As of Tuesday September 1st 2009, old standard frosted light bulbs and clear bulbs of 100 watts and more can no longer be manufactured or imported into the EU as part of the plan.
